Piece of Peace – Ataraxia series
Struisbaai has one of the longest, never-ending beaches in South Africa. Some days it’s so pristine it doesn’t even look real, it’s like you’re standing in a travel magazine photo that’s been heavily doctored. When you add a sun-kissed sky, a few moody clouds with gentle waves reflecting the colours it becomes quite surreal. For me it’s completely and utterly calming. Every time I’m out there it’s different, unique and inspiring, but mostly it’s a grandiose piece of peace for just a moment.
Ataraxia Series
Meaning: Calmness untroubled by mental or emotional disquiet.
Ataraxia is a Greek term first used in Ancient Greek philosophy by Pyrrho and subsequently Epicurus and the Stoics for a lucid state of robust equanimity characterized by ongoing freedom from distress and worry. In non-philosophical usage, the term was used to describe the ideal mental state for soldiers entering battle.
